Through the Lens

'Through The Lens' - gallery of photographs displayed at the Hythe Library at the Society' photograph exhibition during May 2024.

In this gallery, you will see most of the displayed images from one of the two parts of the 2024 display.

Most of the photographs were made from scans of negatives that belonged to the former Hythe professional photographer, Jack Adams. A year after his death  in 1998, his son John donated to the Society his father's  collection of local commercial negatives.  The collection is between 8,000 and 10,000 images. So far, over 5,000 have been digitised with the fantastic support of volunteers at the Maidstone-based Kent Photo Archive.

Later this year, the gallery will expand to include the other photographs displayed during the May 2024 exhibition.

We hope you enjoy viewing these vintage images of Hythe.
