ALDI SITE – PLANNING APPLICATION

The District Council has received a revised application for the vacant Aldi building in the town centre including the car park to the south and the Town Square to the north. You may recall that the Civic Society originally welcomed the principle of a mixed use (residential, retail and car parking) for the site but was critical about the detailed design and the loss of public car parking. This is an important site in the middle of the Hythe Conservation Area.

This application is for the conversion of former Aldi supermarket (to include partial demolition) and erection of a new building to provide 35 residential apartments and 5 commercial units (classes E, F1 and F2), re-configuration of existing car park, enhancement of the Town Square, landscaping, and other associated works.

Comments should be made to the District Council and copied to the Civic Society at enquiries@hythecivicsociety.org no later than 7 March 2024.
